This timber decking installation in Ashford replaces an older deck outside the rear garden doors. The photographs follow the work from the exposed old framework through to the new supporting frame and completed timber surface, including a matching step at the doorway.

From the old frame to a finished garden deck.
The first photograph shows the original decking partly removed, exposing the closely spaced timber underneath. With the surface lifted, the condition and layout of the old structure are visible. This stage is an important part of a replacement project: the supporting work deserves attention as well as the boards people see.
The next view shows a new timber framework spanning the space between the house and the lawn. Long joists and cross-members set out the platform, with the ground beneath still visible before the surface boards are fitted. Including this photograph in the project makes the construction sequence clear.
Grooved timber boards form the finished deck. The rectangular platform extends across the rear of the house, meeting the fence on one side and sitting alongside the existing paved garden route. Timber fascia finishes the exposed edge, while the natural grain and knots give the surface its character.
A small matching timber step sits directly outside the garden doors. It bridges the change in level between the doorway and the main platform without interrupting the open decking area. The close-up photograph shows the step, grooved boards and edge finish together.
For a similar replacement in Ashford, photographs of the existing deck, approximate dimensions and the height of the doors are a useful starting point. The frame, perimeter and doorway connection can then be considered together when discussing the scope.
