A two-tone composite deck in Challock
This Challock project combines a raised composite deck with rendered blockwork planters and acoustic fencing. The two-tone finish gives the platform a defined outline, while a broad lower step connects the deck with the lawn.

A raised terrace with a clear outline.
The lighter decking surface sits above dark fascia boards, making the change in level easy to read from the garden. Border boards frame the main platform and the lower step, giving the edges a deliberate finish. Rather than concentrating access into a narrow staircase, the wide step continues around the exposed sides of the deck.
White rendered blockwork planters sit alongside the decking. An L-shaped planter defines one corner, while a separate rectangular planter stands further along the boundary. Their bright, simple faces contrast with the board texture and timber fencing, bringing a different material into the layout.
Acoustic fencing forms the tall backdrop to the project. Its horizontal timber boards create a consistent boundary behind the deck and planters. The garden also includes a lower fence with a trellis top, visible at the side of the platform. The photographs show how these boundaries frame the raised area.
The decking continues along the boundary beyond the main platform, tying the planters into the wider arrangement. The central lawn remains distinct from the raised surface. Taken together, the levels, contrasting colours and planter positions give each part of the garden a clear place within the design.
